Why We All Need a Life Coach

I would have to say 99.9% of the people I work with have first sought to solve their frustration, dilemma, challenge….whatever you want to call it, themselves.

“We are the Champions.”  We should be able to solve our own problems. We’re not dummies! We can probably even coach our friends and be successful – so naturally we think we can be our own coaches

Some of my clients have battled with their challenges, fears and frustrations for years – continuing to do what they always do and hoping for a different outcome.

Einstein termed this approach, “insanity.”

Recently I had a client who was struggling with wanting to do something different or change careers.  She had a good job, but it had become mundane because she knew the work and was able to do it to the highest standard, basically she was bored.   She was “comfortable” as I interpreted it.  Did I say she started struggling with this in 2019?  For two long years, she’d been battling with what to do, how to find her passion, create next steps and actually MAKING SOMETHING HAPPEN!  How had she progressed?  She hadn’t.

Well, that’s where I come in - I am a life coach who loves what they do.  Don’t ever seek the services of anyone who does not love what they do, if they’re doing it for the money or to pass the time you may struggle with getting the best from them.  Our best comes from our passion.

So, back to my client. We explored her passions, her negative thoughts around success, her fears, her experiences…..her life right now in the present. This exploration brought insights, surprises, context and a clearer view of what she was allowing to hold her back.

It’s difficult to go through this process yourself objectively and a life coach can delicately guide you to sift through the BS and get to the other side, the side where negative thoughts begin. Learn how to stop them in their tracks; rise above the fear and envision where you see the new you.

A key trait of growth is continuing to explore.  Instead of maybe “us” thinking we have all the answers, who or what might be out there to help me get more clarity and (in some cases) stop the madness.  JUST DO IT – I love that motto.

So, I’m going to give you an example of how I see a life coach.Who is this person and what can I expect?

I’ll entitle my list: GIVE ME FIVE FOR LIFE

  1. They are a darn good listener.  I mean they REALLY listen!  This is a skill that takes practice and more practice.  You’ll know they’re listening by their responses to your issues and the questions they ask.

  2. This person has an attitude that “anything and everything” is possible.  Exploring the possibilities and not dwelling on the failures – oh, did I say staying in the present?  The world is anyone’s Oyster.

  3. Your life coach is fit, healthy and lives what she talks and walks what she talks.  She exudes energy and that energy can propel us to seek the same.

  4. They encourage and support clients in doing the work that it takes to change something so we can stop getting what we’ve always gotten - finally get some peace!

  5. Your life coach is kind, empathetic and absolutely non-judgmental.  And will challenge you to get out of your comfort zone - it’s necessary.

So I’m going to invite everyone who is reading this to contemplate getting a Life Coach.  And I’m not saying it should be me – it might be, but you need to make sure you have a “good fit” with the person.

What is a good fit? You feel comfortable talking with the person, you’re able to laugh together, you respect the person and you’re ready for them to challenge you with trust and the confidence that they will guide you to where you need to be.

I happen to be a Life Coach in the city of Brighton & Hove but virtually I can travel! You too can go far and wide to find the right fit for you.

If you’d like to chat with me about anything I’ve said in this blog or interview me then please get in touch.

Wishing you safety, resilience and happiness on this ride call life
